Six candidates have been approved by STPCV TA for 2016 Election

The Board of Directors of the STPCV Tenants Association endorses six candidates for six open positions on the board. The election date is May 14, 2016.

The slate of candidates endorsed by the Board includes:

Kirstin Aadahl

Kirstin has lived with her husband and young daughter in Stuyvesant Town for 8 years. She served as a special education teacher, as co-president of the PTA at PS 40, and now works at the Third Street Music Settlement, and serves as the TA Board’s Secretary.

Matt Arden
Matt and his wife became residents of Stuyvesant Town in 2011, having moved here from Atlanta, GA. In Atlanta, Matt served as president of Kirkwood Neighbors Organization, representing 11,000 residents to the City Council.

Soni Fink
Soni, a Peter Cooper resident since 1961, joined the board in 2001. A reporter, feature writer, and editor for Women’s Wear Daily and other magazines, Soni has crafted scores of TA flyers, bulletins, and other written materials.

Gary Ireland
An attorney and Stuyvesant Town resident, with his wife, 17-year old son, and 14-year-old daughter, Gary has been involved in many socially conscious legal actions and is active in the community. He is currently leader of Scout Troop 414.

Steven Newmark
Attorney and current Chair of the TA Board’s Legal Committee, Steven has lived in Stuyvesant Town for 10 years with his wife and now their two very young boys. He helped organize tenants around the Roberts decision and the Tishman Speyer default.

Keith Powers
Keith is a third-generation STPCV-er. Politically active, he serves on Community Board 6, among many other community associations and political clubs, and worked for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing and State Senator Liz Krueger.

The petitioning period to be a candidate for the board is now starting. Interested candidates may seek a place on the ballot by submitting a petition signed by a minimum of forty-five (45) members of the TA who are current in their dues as of the April 4, 2016, Record Date. No more than one candidate’s name may be included on any one petition.

Petitions must include signature, printed name, address, and apartment number. The Nominating Committee will judge the validity of all petitions. Petitioning ends on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Petition forms are available for download on the Tenants Association website below. In addition to your petition, you must submit a document that includes:

  • Your name, address (including apartment number), telephone, and email;
  • A statement that you are 18 years of age or older; and
  • A summary of your qualifications in 100 words or less.

 On Thursday, April 7, 2016, TA representatives will be available at the Community Center 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. to verify the membership status of petition signers.

Petitions and accompanying documentation should either be—

  • mailed to Nominating Committee, ST/PCV Tenants Association, P.O. Box 1202, New York, NY 10009 and received at the post office no later than Saturday, April 9; or
  • dropped in our drop box at Oval Services, 17A Stuyvesant Oval, or at the Community Center, 449 East 14th Street, First Avenue Loop, no later than 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9.
