We have only until April 8th to follow a difficult administrative path to appeal the Division of Housing and Community Renewal's (DHCR's) order granting rent increases for roof MCIs  of $8 - $14 -- per room -- per month in 31 Stuy Town buildings.  Some tenants will face over $3,000 in retroactive charges.

 We are mounting a challenge and have assembled a Petition For Administrative Review (PAR) kit and begun door-to-door distribution. Our attorney has filed an Omnibus PAR.  Action from each building is needed.

As of 4/4, we have volunteers that have helped distribute the PAR in 27 of the 31 affected buildings but still  need help in 4 others.  Rent increases are building-wide.   Volunteering  and helping in your building can matter.  The number of tenants who send in the PAR may very well determine the success of our appeal.

If you live in one of the buildings not covered,  please phone us right away at (866)-290-9036, with your name, apt no., building address, and phone no. and we will contact you to organize the response in your building.

Meanwhile, if you live in a building listed below, and haven't done so, we need you to complete a Petition For Administrative Review (PAR) which is included in a kit.  Download it here and follow the instructions. This is the same PAR kit that is being distributed by hand.

Effective April 1st, you will have to pay any prospective amount the Landlord bills you for.  The increase can only be phased in yearly increments of 6%.   While the Petition For Administrative Review is in process, the Landlord may not collect the retroactive amount of increase.

in granting the landlord's request for a rent increase, DHCR:

  1. Totally ignored the Tenants Association's detailed factual and legal objections
  2. Ignored its own rules by failing to notify tenants regarding the progress of their appeal for relief and the owner's response to DHCR, thereby cutting off tenants' ability to reply.
