Tenants Association Election to Be Held in Mid-May
The Nominating Committee of the Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association is soliciting candidates for election to its Board of Directors. The election will take place in mid-May. There are three existing positions to be filled. In accordance with the staggered expiration of directors’ four-year terms, the three longest-serving directors are standing for re-election this year. Residents who fill the requirements below may petition to share a place on the ballot.
Requirements for Directors:
- Candidates for the Board of Directors must be 18 years of age or older
- A resident of Stuyvesant Town or Peter Cooper Village
- Current in Association dues as of March 17, 2011
All Board members are volunteers and receive no compensation. Individuals interested in serving the community as a member of the Board of Directors should be prepared to spend 20 to 50 or more hours each month on Tenants Association business.
How Do I Get on the Ballot?
Provided you have met the basic requirements for the Board as described above, you may seek a place on the ballot by submitting a petition, which must be signed by 35 Association members. Any resident of an apartment that is current in its dues as of March 17, 2011 is a member of the Tenants Association. Individuals signing the petition must sign and print their name, address, apartment number, and home telephone number. The Nominating Committee will be the sole judge of the validity of any petition.
A petition form is available on the Tenants Association web site. Petitions should be submitted to the Nominating Committee by mail to: Nominating Committee, ST/PCV Tenants Association, P.O. Box 1202, New York, NY 10009-1202. Petitioning begins on Friday, March 18, 2011 and petitions are due in the TA mailbox no later than 5:00pm on Thursday, March 31, 2011.
In submitting your petition, include the following information:
- Your Name, Address (including apartment number), Telephone and email.
- A statement that you are 18 years of age or older
- A resume, curriculum vitae and/or statement of one page or less stating your qualifications to serve on the Board, including past community activities here and elsewhere, any relevant professional or work experience, and why you are interested in serving on the Board.
