ST/PCV Tenants Will Ride to Albany June 1st
The Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association will take its advocacy on the road on June 1, chartering a bus to join a rally and meet with influential legislators in Albany. The ride promises to be a lively one, with Council Member Dan Garodnick leading a discussion of rent laws and other issues of concern to tenants.
“This kind of tenant participation puts a face on the hundreds of thousands of people who need the protection of strengthened rent laws,” said Tenants Association president Al Doyle. “We will be campaigning in Albany for doing away with Vacancy Destabilization, forever MCI rent increases and other dodges the real estate lobby has managed to have enacted over the years. And we’ll be working hard to make certain Albany doesn’t tamper with the Roberts ruling.”
Council Member Garodnick added: “This is the moment for residents of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village to make a stand in support of the renewal and strengthening of rent regulation, including the protection of the Roberts case. I look forward to taking the show on the road, meeting with my neighbors on the bus, and making our best arguments in Albany.”
The June 1st bus will leave from First Avenue and 18th Street at 7:15 AM and will return in the evening. Participants are advised to bring food to last through the long day; the Tenants Association will have bottled water aboard.
