14th Street Cleanup: Mayor Announces Action in Press Conference

Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference on Thursday, August 8, to announce a city agency–wide effort to reverse the deteriorated quality of life on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. The mayor was joined by local elected officials as well as the heads of many city agencies as he pledged a multipronged effort to make the street safe and keep it safe.

The press conference was held at the 14th Street Y.

According to the mayor’s media release, “The multi-agency coalition will work to address a range of public safety issues, including illegal vending, retail theft, substance use, the mental health crisis, beautification, cumbersome scaffolding that drives quality-of-life issues, unlicensed cannabis shops, and more.”

A $1 million Mobile Command Center is to be placed on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A..
