Donate Now—Support Our Lawsuit Against Unreasonable Costs for MCI Rent Increases

The state’s Division of Housing and Community Renewal put out a schedule of costs for Major Capital Improvement rent increases. The pricing exceeds any industry standard.

DHCR is looking to give back to owners what the state legislature took away in 2019—the unscrupulous methods that use MCIs to gouge tenants.

On May 27, 2021, the STPCV TA filed suit in State Supreme Court, seeking a judgment to nullify the cost schedule as violating the provisions of the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019. We want a fair and accurate Reasonable Cost Schedule for MCIs.

Tenants can’t keep paying inflated and ineligible costs that stay in their rent for decades.

The TA paid $5,000 for the initial challenge to the agency; future proceedings could run many thousands of dollars more. Our resources are limited, but we view this as an investment to prevent future out-of-control MCI increases.

You may donate securely here or by sending a check to the Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association, Inc., P.O. Box 1202, New York, NY 10009-1202.
