TA Annual Meeting and Board Election Results (Video Available)
At the TA's annual meeting on May 30, 2023, the board election results were announced. The recording of the meeting may be viewed on YouTube. Incumbent and current president Susan Steinberg was reelected, and Stuyvesant Town resident Ana Lombardo was elected to the board.
We also said farewell to Al Doyle, past president, long-serving director, and lifelong resident of Stuyvesant Town, who has decided to retire from the board. Please see his remarks below.
Following the business portion of the meeting, we were joined by elected representatives Congressman Jerrold Nadler, State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Assembly Member Harvey Epstein, City Council Member Keith Powers, and Deputy Manhattan Borough President Aya Keefe.
Al Doyle’s remarks:
My name is Alvin Doyle, and I was born and raised in Stuyvesant Town. My wife Pat and I are dues-paying members of the T.A. since we first joined in 1980. We became active members during a time when the rent regulations were under constant attack at City Hall and in the State legislature in Albany.
We organized trips to Albany to lobby the State legislature, the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, and the NY State Governor’s Office to protect rent stabilization. Each year we also traveled to the Rent Guidelines Board to support fair and affordable Rents. We are organizing along with other affordable housing advocates for passage of favorable housing legislation as we move forward in these uncertain times.
My years as a member of the Tenants Association have afforded me and Pat an opportunity that we could not have had if we were not involved. We have met so many outstanding people that we can call our neighbors and participated in events in the most outstanding community in the most outstanding city on Earth.
As we move forward, we are presented with ever-increasing and seeming intractable problems; however, I am encouraged. People in ST/PCV are not afraid to stand up to challenges. My personal observation—our current Board of Directors is one of the hardest-working, talented, and devoted boards that we ever had.
And to our new neighbors, our not-so-new neighbors, and our old neighbors—our reputation as an outstanding and safe community remains intact.
I am proud that I live here.
Thank you.
